Richard Harris represents commercial and personal lines insurers, as well as construction firms and building owners in all phases of litigation, including jury trials, arbitration, mediation, appellate advocacy, and coverage analysis.  His experience includes bad faith litigation, construction contracts, negligence, products liability, insurance coverage disputes, premises liability, employment, medical malpractice and casualty insurance litigation.

Representative Engagements:

  • Trial counsel in numerous insurance “bad faith” cases for both large and small insurance carriers, including property, automobile, health insurance, life insurance and commercial liability coverage.
  • Representation of prominent electrical subcontractor in dispute arising from multi-million dollar waste water treatment plant renovation project.
  • Defense of suit alleging nationwide practice of wrongful rescission of health insurance policies; alleged forgeries and fraud in the sale of insurance; and “post claims underwriting.”
  • Representation of construction management firm in complex arbitration and district court litigation regarding multi-million dollar construction project.
  • Representation of large insurer in defense of claims of allegedly wrongful, statewide claims evaluation practices of roof claims in homeowners policies.
  • Internal investigation and prosecution of insurance claims on behalf of large Oklahoma City automobile dealership for ongoing, systematic third party theft of auth parts.
  • Defense of annuity broker regarding Federal litigation over sale of multi-million dollar annuity arising from complex multi-party settlement of product liability action.
  • Defense of numerous manufacturers in personal injury, product liability claims and severe injuries.
  • Prosecution of federal court declaratory judgment action for Fortune 500 insurance company, including successful defense of appeal to United States Supreme Court.
  • Representation of environmental engineering firm before Oklahoma Corporation Commission regarding underground petroleum storage tank installation and remediation.

Education:

Oklahoma State University (B.S. 1987); Cornell University (J.D. 1994)(Magna Cum Laude). Honors include Order of the Coif and the Board of Editors for the Cornell Law Review.

Admissions/Membership:

Oklahoma and American Bar Associations. Licensed in all Oklahoma state courts, all U.S. District Courts in Oklahoma, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Has served on the Bench and Bar Committee of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Holloway Inn of Court and the Oklahoma City Campaign for Legal Aid.
